Practical Advise From our Guides...

Snorkelling Mask

If you are using your favourite old mask, inspect the rubber carefully for cracks and signs of aging. You don't want a strap to break or a leak to suddenly appear while you are on your trip. If your are planning to buy new equipment, select a mask with a strong connection between the mask and strap. This is one place we see a lot of failures.

And most of all, make sure it fits your face before you pack your suitcase. :-)

Planning extra travel in Belize

I have booked an Island Expedition tour and I want to add a few more days to my trip. Is it better to do this at the front or back end?

I always recommend that it is important to plan to have a day or two to acclimatize when arriving in a tropical place like Belize. Coming in a day early is worth adding to your trip in some cases. At
Island Expeditions Co we include an arrival day at the start of each trip. This is called 'Day 0' and has been conceived for guest convenience and comfort. "Day 0" is a day to arrive in Belize before the trip starts, meet your fellow travelers, and to acclimatize to your new tropical environment. An Island Expeditions representative meets you at the airport and your transportation, dinner and lodging have been included in the advertised trip costs.

Adding extra time is a great way to see another part of the country or to just hang up and be pampered at a nice beach resort. I think doing extra time is best done after your Island Expeditions trip. By this time in your travel you are well acclimatized, you have a nice tan, you have picked up some local lingo and travel is relaxed and easy.
